Summer 2002
Arnie, Douglas And……….Max
It was Arnold Schwarzenegger who proclaimed in a gruff Teutonic timbre: “I’LL BE BACK!!” And of course, the Philippines just wasn’t the same until General Macarthur made good on his promise to return.
But Big Bad Arnie and General Doug weren’t the only ones. Yes, much as we might have been hoping that it wasn’t true when Max threatened an ultimate return from the ivory towers of Academe, the time has finally arrived when he’s turned his skateboard towards home.
As you’re all aware, Max has spent the past couple of years on secondment to the veterinary faculty at the University as head of the Surgery Department and Director of the Clinic.
During this time he’s been spending Thursdays at Gladesville, attending to patients in his beloved baby, the nuclear medicine facility. Since our corridors haven’t been entirely bereft of his gleaming pate and hirsute facial features he hasn’t allowed us to quite forget him- no matter how hard we tried!! Which is just as well, since as of early December, he’ll be back on deck at GVH full time.
On a serious note, Max has done a great job at the University, at a time when it was in desperate need of some fresh blood. This has been just one more element of his tremendous contributions, on many fronts, to the veterinary profession in this country throughout his career. He will still be maintaining some contact with the veterinary students by spending one day a week on campus, but will otherwise be devoting his energies entirely to GVH.

Welcome back, Max- the place just wasn’t the same without you. And as we’ve always known, you can just never have too many bald heads under one roof!
